Is there really any significant difference between a cheaper vs a more expensive model? I'm looking at the Black Diamond Momentum Harness, which seems to be a solid buy as far as I can tell. On that harness I tighten down the waist belt almost all the way, which nicely centers the belay loop. Also it wasn't very comfortable to sit in a tight harness while belaying. You can usually find them on sale for 25% off. My Black Diamond harness is very comfortable, but I would add that it's NOT comfortable when I climb in Kuhl shorts. Whenever I’m hanging on a climb, they don’t cut in at all and just feel so supportive. I'm looking for my first harness, and I've read good things about the Black Diamond Momentum. I've been climbing in my Black Diamond Momentum for the past year and change, and while it's been a good utilitarian harness, the padding seems to have worn out entirely, it's getting uncomfortable, and it's starting to show some early signs of wear. I have loved my momentum so far, I'm just looking for something a little more comfortable. I'm thinking of retiring the 4 year old Black Diamond momentum and upgrading to something a little nicer. . However im unsure about the sizing. I would take a look at the gear loops on each, I don't like the way the Petzl loops lay flat. I was climbing multipitches last year and had no problem putting a coat under the harness, but then the gear loops are not symetrical - the right side is more on your back. My waist size hovers between 31" and 32" and I have a medium Black Diamond Momentum (older version of this). The Aquila is supposedly better for larger people, and I am not sure if that is code for fat people who don't climb seriously or for large people like myself. I loooove my Solution harness! I started with the Momentum as well, and the Solution just feels like a much higher quality harness. The harness is just the bottom half but the leg wraps dig into my flesh and the back is not comfortable and feels like I have a rope on my back . I switched to Prana Stretch Zion shorts, and will never wear Kuhl shorts climbing again. But like Black diamond momentum 3S vs just the regular BD momentums? What does the 3S stand for? Trying to take advantage of rei's little sale right now, and saw they've got some decent deals on harnesses, but they're mostly "climbing" harnesses like the Black diamond momentum/momentum 4s/Bod or the petzl corax/adjama; and not specifically for "canyoneering". So, consider the shorts you wear too. I mostly sport climb, but I do a little trad here and there. I see a lot of people recommending their own personal favourite harnesses…but it’s so fit-dependent! I returned my black diamond "momentum" for this reason I spent the extra 20 and for the black diamond solution because it looked like the leg support was way better, and I was right. There is also the Black Diamond Momentum DS, which costs 10eu more, but I couldn't find what the difference between the two is. The BD ones are rigid and stand out from the harness a little bit, made a difference to me when I was buying. I'm a 32 waist size and bought a Medium harness but it was too small so returned it. When did Black Diamond stop making the Momentum Al harnesses? I found one and it looks brand new but from what I searched it could be over 14 years old.
